    The Local Business Growth Playbook

A step-by-step guide to growing a local business using SEO, Google Ads, and automated follow-up.

Growing a local service business comes down to three things: getting found, getting the lead, and getting back to them fast. This playbook breaks each of those into steps you can actually apply, whether you run a shop in Amarillo or a service crew across the Texas Panhandle.

Step 1: Make sure people can find you

Start with your Google Business Profile. Complete every field, keep your hours accurate, add real photos of your work, and list every service you offer. Then make sure your website loads fast on mobile and has a clear page for each core service. The goal is to be the obvious choice when someone nearby searches for what you do.

Step 2: Get in front of ready-to-buy searches

SEO is long-term, but paid search reaches people the moment they are ready to act. Run Google Ads on the keywords that signal buying intent, send that traffic to a dedicated landing page instead of your homepage, and use negative keywords to block the searches that waste your budget.

Step 3: Capture the lead cleanly

Every page should have one clear next step: call, fill out the form, or book. Keep your form short and make your phone number easy to find and tap on mobile. The easier it is to reach you, the more of your traffic turns into actual inquiries.

    Step 4: Respond fast

Speed is one of the biggest advantages most local businesses leave on the table. Set up instant text and email replies the moment a form is submitted, and use missed-call text back so a missed call is less likely to become a lost job. A fast, helpful reply can improve your chances of keeping the lead.

Step 5: Follow up and ask for honest reviews

Not every lead is ready to buy today. Keep a simple nurture sequence running so you stay in front of people until they are ready. After the job is done, invite every genuine customer to leave an honest Google review, not just the ones you expect to be happy, and do not offer incentives or screen customers by their experience. Reviews can support your local visibility over time, though no ranking is guaranteed.

Get found, get the lead, and get back fast. Do those three things consistently and you put yourself in a stronger position than competitors who are still guessing.
